People are often surprised when I tell them Reiki isn’t just something you receive from a practitioner. Self-treatment is the foundation of the entire system, and many people miss out on its valuable effects. But when people do commit to a regular practice—even for just ten minutes a day—they often comment that their day starts off calmer, their emotions stay more balanced, and they feel more aligned with their purpose.
What Reiki Self-Healing Is
Self-treatment is a meditative practice. It involves focus on the breath, and a methodical placement of your hands on or above your body.
Virtually anyone can do it. You don't need special powers or abilities. The simplicity of this practice is its strength. All you have to do is show up for yourself with awareness and compassion.
Self Treatment and Becoming a Practitioner
Reiki Level One is traditionally dedicated to personal healing. Self-treatment helps clear internal stress before offering Reiki to others. It strengthens builds confidence, sensitivity, and ability to stay present in the moment
With a regular practice, students report:
Less anxiety
Calmer nervous system
Clarity in decision-making
Less reactivity to challenging situations
Clearer boundaries
Positive energy throughout the day
Many students are surprised by how much shifts from this small, daily ritual.
How to Begin Your Reiki Self Healing Journey
Choose Your Time Wisely
Select a time you can realistically commit to. Early mornings, lunch breaks, or before bed all work well.
Find Your Comfortable Position
Sit comfortably or lie down. Place your hands gently in the placements you learned: usually over the eyes, temples, throat, heart, solar plexus, lower belly, and anywhere else that feels supportive.
Breathe and Allow
Breathe naturally and allow your body to soften. Focus on your hands and your breath. Allow physical sensations, thoughts, emotions to drift in and out. Simply allow yourself to "just be." Over time, this practice becomes a quiet anchor in your day.
Staying Consistent with Your Practice
Some days you may feel strong and centered, while other days may feel distracted or foggy. Some days you will feel amazing! Every session counts, whether you experience it as "good" or "bad." Part of the practice is learning to let go of judgement and invite compassion for all aspects of self. The goal is to build a relationship with your own energy and consciousness.
Embracing the Reiki Journey
Letting go and allowing: This is the heart of Reiki! The more you treat yourself, the clearer and more confident you’ll feel in every part of your life. You will also become more confident and effective if you choose to treat others.
The Benefits of Regular Self-Treatment
Enhanced Emotional Well-Being
Regular self-treatment can lead to improved emotional health. As you practice, you may find that you respond to stressors with greater calmness and clarity. This emotional steadiness can enhance your interactions with others.
Strengthened Intuition
Self-treatment can also strengthen your intuition. By tuning into your body and energy, you become more aware of your needs and feelings. This heightened awareness can guide you in making better decisions in your daily life.
Building Confidence
As you engage in self-treatment, you build confidence in your ability to manage your energy. This confidence can translate into other areas of your life, empowering you to face challenges with a more grounded approach.
The Transformative Power of Self-Reiki
Self-treatment is a powerful tool for personal growth and healing, if you do it consistently, not as a chore but as a sacred moment in your daily routine. It allows you to connect with your inner self and fosters a sense of peace and balance.
Self-treatment is a simple ritual, but it invites a journey towards self-discovery and empowerment. Embrace the simplicity and effectiveness of this practice, and you will understand the Reiki saying "shin shin kaizen," which means small, daily improvements of mind and body.
